THE MAKING OF AUSTRALIA

There were people in Australia long before Europeans discovered the continent in the 1600s. Aborigines didn´t have metal or pottery, but they had very rich form of art, painting, song, poetry and mythology.  There were around 500 different tribes with different languages and a complex system of trade. They lived by collecting food and hunting with spears and boomerangs. In 1770 James Cook landed in the eastern part of Australia,  which he named New South Wales and claimed for Great Britain and declared it a British colony. At this time, Britain was looking for a place to send its prisioners and criminals. Australia was the perfect place, it was very far from Britain !!!  Cook's discoveries prepared the way for establishment of a new penal colony . Captain Arthur Phillip led the First Fleet into Port Jackson on 26 January 1788. This date became Australia's national day, Australia Day  At the beginning only prisioners and their guards arrived there, thousands a

September 11th - Danny Jones - Silence of the City

One more year it´s September 11th. New York is in our memories. It was Tuesday afternoon, I got home from work quite soon, I turned on the tv and, What did I see? I saw World War Three, Staring back at me, I thought I might wake up to reality, There wasn’t gonna be, Yeah, And all I could see was, This horrific tragedy. In the Silence Of The City, No mobile phones ring, In the Silence Of The City, You cannot hear a thing, In the Silence Of The City, The smiles are washed away, In the Silence Of The City, There’s nothing left to say. And New York, New York, So good they named you twice, The city that never sleeps, Do you believe your eyes? And by this act of war, Big apple is eaten to the core, And two tall towers, Crumble to the floor, And Manhattan isn’t there, It’s there no more! In the Silence Of The City, No mobile phones ring, In the Silence Of The City, You cannot hear a thing, In the Silence Of The City, The smiles are washed away, In the

FRANKLIN´S LOST EXPEDITION

Franklin's lost expedition THE MYSTERY OF THE FRANKLIN EXPEDITION Many years ago, explorers wanted to find a way by sea from Europe to China, via Alaska. In 1845, John Franklin left England with 134 men to look for a route through the Arctic. Franklin´s ships had everything they needed. They had enough food in tins for three years and thousands of litres of lemon juice to stop disease and many other things as books, maps, scientific and musical instruments and even a camera. They arrived at Baffin Bay in July 1845 and things were going well, some sailors saw Franklin´s expedition on July  26th and that was the last time they were seen alive. The British Government became very worried because they heard nothing about Franklin for a long time, they sent expeditions to look for him and offered a 20,000 Pounds reward for any news. Nobody returned with information. Then in 1850 some sailors found some signs of the Frank

THE TASADAY PEOPLE´S TRICK

In 1971,In the Philippines, some men discovered a group of 25 people in the rainforest. They called themselves Tasaday people and they lived like cave people in the stone age. They had fire but they did not use the wheel, did not have agriculture. They collected plants to eat and they trapped fish in the river. They were very peaceful people and they believed that the animals were their natural friends. The scientists claimed for protection and many governments gave money to the Philippines to make sure the Tasaday people were safe. They stopped all tree-cutting and road building in the area. A few months later, a journalist visited the Tasadays and he discovered that these people lived in houses, not in caves, they watched television and they wore modern clothes. They told the journalist that they were paid to look like prehistoric people. When the scientists returned very angry they found Tasadays living like in the stone age cave people again. Today that status is wid
